| Notes | Discovered by Pierre Mechain, a comet hunter and contemporary of Charles Messier, in July 1781. M106 is estimated to lie about 25 million light years from earth. Also seen in the above image is the faint irregular galaxy UGC 7356 to the left of M106 and spiral galaxy NGC 4248 at about a 5 o-clock position from M106. |
