Notes

One of the closest planetary nebulae to Earth, the Helix Nebula is estimated to be about 650 light years away and span nearly 2.5 light years across its major axis.

This monochrome H-alpha image of NGC 7293 captures the very faint outer ring of the nebula, seen in the above image describing a sweeping arc from about the 9 to the 12 o'clock position. A small wisp of gas cloud can also be seen in the upper left hand corner of the frame.
