The cometary knots seen emanating from the nebula's central star are the result of hot, quickly expanding shells of gas outrunning
cooler and denser shells previously ejected during the central star's red giant evolutionary phase. The heads of the larger
knots are several billions of miles across with tails that stretch over 100 billion miles in length.
